When Is There a Choice?, general view

The installation “When Is There a Choice?” is a large web of white threads and nets in which ceramic objects bearing documentary photographs and quotations are hidden.

The central metaphor is the thread as fate — the life path of a woman, spun by the Moirai in ancient Greece. I see the tangled skein of a woman’s life as a line and a story with an enormous number of obstacles, intersections and radical turns, shaped by many factors, social ones above all. The thread also stands for the way out of any tangled situation.

I weave into the project my reflections on the myths and stories of Ariadne, Eurydice, Helen and the Moirai, because I am close to the view of a woman as the mistress of her own life and fate. I try to rethink the experience of the past and to look at the life path, its key points and events, recording them through ceramics and photographs.
