Aether

The project “Aether” explores the interplay of different modalities of time. Landscapes are, on the one hand, emblems of timelessness: the sky has existed above us since time immemorial. On the other, the sky is one of the most changeable and elusive things in a landscape, shifting almost by the second with the season, the hour and the weather.

Onto canvases depicting the sky, adverbs of time are embroidered in the colour of the ground — words directly bound to time, yet as elusive as the image of the sky in any given moment. Because the threads match and repeat the background, the embroidery is barely visible; but catching the light at a different angle it becomes clearly legible, pointing once again to the complexity and elusiveness of time itself.
